Major Overhaul of BRUSH Turbogenerator

Employees of WEIZ Positron performed a scheduled capital inspection at a major petrochemical energy facility. The work was carried out on a Brush DG185ZL-04 synchronous turbogenerator.

During the operations, specialists extracted the rotor and inspected the stator and rotor of the turbogenerator. Based on the inspection results, the turbogenerator bearings were replaced, the stator winding end-turn insulation was restored, the operation of the Prismic A10 excitation system controllers was fine-tuned, and the stator was cleaned using dry ice.

All work was completed strictly according to the established schedule, preventing downtime for the CCGT maintenance personnel and ensuring the facility's reliable operation.

Gold in programming and bronze in robotics with support from WEIZ Positron.

The "Algorithms and Rationality" team, sponsored by WEIZ Positron, has achieved significant success in international competitions.

In Kazan, it won first place at the Art of Code 2024 programming championship and then secured a bronze medal at the FIRA RoboWorld Cup world robotics championship in South Korea.

Supporting promising IT specialists is part of WEIZ Positron's corporate strategy. These victories demonstrate the team's high level of preparation and the effectiveness of investments in developing technological talent.
We wish the team to continue striving for new achievements and victories!
Robotic inspection of the ELIN 6FA model turbogenerator at the Vologda CHPP.

WEIZ Positron LLC completed an in-depth robotic inspection within a tight deadline, significantly reducing the overall repair time.

This project was a logical continuation of our long-term work at the facility:

In 2019, company specialists investigated the source of a generator's high-frequency whistle.
In 2020, thermal performance tests of the gas turbine unit were conducted to define the operational range for the combined cycle unit for the System Operator.
In 2025, we executed an advanced robotic inspection of the generator using our own proprietary tooling.
Robotic inspection of the ANDRITZ Hydro turbogenerator
model 6FA

A robotic inspection was completed at a key energy facility in Kazan.
Within a tight timeframe, company specialists inspected an Andritz Hydro 6FA synchronous turbogenerator.

The inspection involved examining the stator and rotor of the generator, as well as checking the generator's wedge tightness and balancing plugs. Due to the robot's exceptionally compact design, we were able to inspect areas of the stator previously inaccessible to other robot models.
The inspection was completed in 2 days, ensuring there was no downtime for the maintenance personnel working on the CCGT unit.

ALSTOM 50WY21Z-095

Specialists of the company successfully completed a robotic inspection of the ALSTOM 50WY21Z-095 turbogenerator at a power generation facility in the Urals.

The uniqueness of this inspection was dictated by the generator's design feature — a minimal air gap between the stator and rotor. The inspection additionally required the use of special tooling for precise equipment positioning.
As a result, the technical condition of the turbogenerator was determined and recommendations for its further operation were provided.
Robotic inspection of the ABB AMS 1120 LK turbogenerator on an oil platform

Our company successfully performed a robotic inspection on an oil platform. The confined space conditions made it impossible to extract the rotor from the generator stator.

Together with the Customer, a decision was made to conduct a robotic inspection. The work was completed precisely on schedule. The robotic tooling demonstrated high effectiveness for use on turbogenerators. The data obtained during the inspection allows for an accurate assessment of the actual condition of the wedges, insulation, and ventilation ducts, and enables a conclusion to be drawn regarding the technical state of the turbogenerator.

Inspection robot

Company WEIZ Positron LLC has the capability to diagnose the condition of turbogenerators using the world's one of the slimmest in its class. Its thickness at the widest point is only 15 mm. Since the beginning of the year, inspections have been successfully performed on three generators with restricted access to the stator windings. Other known robotic tooling from leading global manufacturers could not overcome these technical challenges due to the narrowed entry gap of less than 12.5 mm.
This solution serves as an excellent alternative to performing a major inspection with rotor removal, saving both time and budget.
Typical duration for completing a robotic inspection: 2–5 days
Conducting a robotic inspection

Specialists of WEIZ Positron LLC successfully conducted a robotic inspection of a General Electric synchronous turbogenerator, which is part of the world's most efficient CCGT unit. The scope of work included a visual inspection of each stator winding, as well as wedge tightness control. The inspection was completed ahead of the scheduled plan.
